Ecomap.ngo — Global Interactive Ecological Map and Data Aggregator
Ecomap.ngo (along with its Armenian regional gateway ecomap.am) is a flagship international project developed by the environmental public organization Ecoparsec NGO. What started as a local urban initiative (previously known as YRVN.am) has now scaled into a global, open-source geoinformation platform and spatial aggregator of environmental data. The project combines public crowd-sourced monitoring, a practical guide to sustainable living, and an architectural framework designed to bridge the gap between citizens, scientific research groups, and transparent ecological data worldwide.
Mission and Project Goals
- Global Accessibility & Transparency: Providing citizens, researchers, and activists worldwide with open access to verified environmental data in real time.
- Driving the Circular Economy (Zero Waste): Creating a convenient, scalable digital infrastructure for waste sorting, localized recycling, reuse, and reducing the global carbon footprint.
- Environmental Education & Scalability: Building a universal, multilingual knowledge base to help communities everywhere integrate sustainable habits into their daily lives and map their local eco-infrastructure.
Key Modules and Platform Functionality
The ecomap.ngo platform integrates several critical areas of citizen science, monitoring, and urban ecology:
| Direction / Category | Description and Functional Capabilities |
|---|---|
| Waste Sorting & Recycling (Recycle) | An interactive map of recycling collection points with detailed filtering by fraction types: plastic, glass, metal, paper, cardboard, and e-waste. The map helps users instantly find the nearest local recycling spots anywhere in the world. |
| Reuse and Repair (Reuse & Repair) | Cataloging and mapping of local repair shops, sharing services, second-hand hubs, charity organizations, and textile collection points to extend the lifecycle of items. |
| Air Quality Monitoring (Air Quality) | Real-time monitoring of atmospheric air. In Armenia, the platform is closely integrated with the TUMO Labs Climatenet.am initiative, displaying data from their network of eco-sensors alongside verified open-source environmental data feeds to promptly inform citizens about localized pollution levels (PM2.5 / PM10) and gas concentrations. |
| Natural Resources and Green Zones | Displaying water resources, recreational areas, protected natural reserves, and forests, as well as logging critical environmental issues like unauthorized landfills or pollution hotspots. |
Research & Academic Partnerships (Expanding Data Layers)
The architecture of Ecomap.ngo is built with unlimited scalability in mind. The platform is capable of supporting an ever-growing number of specialized information layers (e.g., biodiversity tracking, soil contamination, noise pollution, renewable energy infrastructure, or climate vulnerability indexes).
We actively invite independent research groups, universities, laboratories, and environmental analysts to collaborate. If you have spatial datasets, scientific research results, or citizen-science data that requires clear, interactive visualization and public mapping, Ecomap.ngo can serve as your technical hosting and distribution platform. Together, we can turn raw scientific data into actionable public knowledge. For research partnerships, please reach out to [email protected].
International Community Engagement & Crowdsourcing
Ecomap.ngo is a living, cross-border organism that thrives on the participation of the global eco-community. The platform implements unique interaction tools:
- Request Recycle Container: Users and local businesses can send targeted requests to place recycling bins in specific locations, helping optimize urban waste management infrastructure.
- Global Knowledge Base: An integrated educational hub containing clear instructions on proper waste sorting, plastic labeling, and dealing with complex environmental cases, adaptable to different regional guidelines.
- Data Crowdsourcing: The ability for users from any country to verify existing locations and add new ecological points on the map, which go live after moderation by the Ecoparsec team.
Integration & B2B Solutions (Map Embedding)
We believe that eco-data should be shared freely across borders. Ecomap.ngo supports widget embedding, allowing environmental initiatives, local businesses, global media outlets, and municipalities to integrate the entire map or specific customized fragments directly into their own websites.
If you want to showcase eco-points in your specific district or display recycling spots near your local business, you can easily embed our responsive map module. For integration inquiries and API access, please contact our technical team at [email protected].
Technical Features & Partnerships
The platform is developed using advanced, open-source mapping solutions (OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap). This ensures high performance, complete independence from restrictive commercial APIs, and strict user privacy protection.
By aggregating open-source data and partnering with cutting-edge citizen-science networks like TUMO Labs Climatenet.am, Ecomap ensures high data reliability. The web interface is fully mobile-responsive, supports both dark and light modes, and is continuously expanding its language support to stay accessible to a global audience.
How to Support the Project? (Join From Anywhere)
The development, server maintenance, and data updates of Ecomap.ngo are carried out entirely by the Ecoparsec NGO team and an international network of volunteers. We are actively expanding beyond a local scope and invite people from all over the world to join our mission:
- Use and Share: Use the map daily, map your local neighborhood, and share the platform with your community.
- Contribute Global Data: Add new recycling, reuse, and eco-repair points that you discover in your city or country.
- Donate: Support the project financially via the Donate module on the website. Global funding helps us scale our server infrastructure, purchase independent air quality sensors, and expand the platform's features for new regions.
- Join as a Researcher or Volunteer: We are looking for data scientists, research groups, local eco-scouts, translators, and tech volunteers (developers/designers) from all over the world. To collaborate or join our international volunteer community, fill out our form or drop us a message at [email protected].
